Descrição
Swiss authorities have frozen a bank account belonging to the former Serbian prime minister, Mirko Marjanovic, according to Mladjan Dinkic, governor of Yugoslavia's central bank. Marjanovic, a close ally of the ousted Yugoslav leader Slobodan Milsoevic, is said to have funds of over SFr100,000 ($58,450) in a Swiss account. He served as Serbian prime minister until shortly after Milosevic was toppled following an uprising last year. Yugoslav officials are trying to track down funds that left Serbia during Milosevic's 13-year rule. Marjanovic is one of 37 Yugoslavs whose bank accounts in Switzerland have been frozen as part of international efforts to ensure Milosevic and his allies do not have access to funds. The latest announcement follows a move earlier this month by the Swiss economics ministry, which launched an investigation into the import of 173 kilogrammes of gold bullion into Switzerland. The investigation was ordered after reports from Belgrade that Milosevic may have transferred an identical amount of gold out of Yugoslavia between September 21 and November 21 last year. Milosevic, who has been indicted by the United Nations War Crimes Tribunal, has denied any wrongdoing during his term in office. swissinfo with agencies
