Demo Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a Japanese manga series. It was written and created by Koyoharu Gotouge. The story is about a teenager named Tanjiro Kamado who works hard to become a Demon Slayer after his family was slaughtered. Her younger sister, Nezuko turned into a demon. It has been published in English by Viz Media and simultaneously was published by Shueisha on their Manga Plus platform. The series has been categorized into Adventure, Dark Fantasy, and Martial Arts genres. The manga was released on February 15, 2016, and went on till May 18, 2020. The Anime Television series was directed by Haruo Sotozaki. It has a total of 26 episodes which were produced by Ufotable and aired in Japan from April to September 2019. In the series, Tanjiro who is a kind-hearted and intelligent boy became the breadwinner of his family after his father’s death by selling out charcoal to a nearby village. On his mission to annihilate all the demons, he met Zenitsu Agatsuma and Inosuke Hashibira who were fellow survivors of the exam. According to Gotouge, the series’ three biggest influences are JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Naruto and Bleach. Tatsuhiko Katayama, an editor of the Demon Slayer manga stated in an interview that the red-haired, scar-faced Tanjiro was inspired by Rurouni Kenshin, a 1990s manga about a similarly drawn swordsman, Himura Kenshin.
